zerotech to introduce 4k action with built-in gimbal: digital p og hy review

chinese drone manufacturer zerotech has announced it will introduce a handheld action era that features an in-built 3-axis stabilization gimbal. the rollcap will shoot 4k video and 13mp stills while providing +/-0.03° of angular vibration compen ion as well as gimbal movements to smooth video footage. the company says its built-in gimbal can tilt up to +/- 30°, can pan up to +/-40° and has a roll range of +/-85°.the lens offers a 94° angle of view, so compares approximately to a 21mm on a full frame system. the era features are controlled remotely via a smartphone app and recording can also be started and stopped at the era. features include slow motion video, high drive burst modes, time lapse, self-timer and hdr. a tripod thread allows the rollcap to be mounted on a pole, helmet or acces

luuv video camera stabilizers finally make it to the market: digital photography

three years after launching its indiegogo funding campaign german start-up luuv has announced it is ready to begin open sales of its video camera stabilization devices. the company has serviced all its backers and is now selling its solidluuv, ultraluuv action and action gimbal to the public.designed for filmmakers using small cameras such as gopro action cams and smartphones, the ultraluuv action combines the company’s solidluuv and action gimbal to provide both mechanical and electronic stabilization. luuv says the setup offers 2x 3-axis stabilization, with the 3-axis mechanical stabilization of the solidluuv alongside the 3-axis electronic stabilization produced by the rechargeable-battery powered action gimbal. the gimbal has four modes that allow panning actions, panning and tilting a

rollcap 4k action will have a built-in 3-axis image stabilizer

why it matters to you those who have been using 4k action s that rely on large, external gimbals may prefer the rollcap, which has one built right in.apparently there aren’t already enough action eras on the market. chinese drone manufacturer zerotech has announced that it will soon launch rollcap, a 4k-capable action era that features an integrated 3-axis stabilization gimbal, later this year.smaller than the size of a pop can, rollcap is designed to negate the need for an external gimbal by building it right into the frame of the era itself. to help stabilize the 4k video and 13 megapixel stills, rollcap’s self-contained gimbal rolls, tilts, and pans +/- 85 degrees, +/- 30 degrees, and +/- 40 degrees, respectively.in front of its sensor is a 94-degree lens that is roughly equivalent to

ultraluuv looks weird, but makes your gopro videos look great

why it matters to you combining a mechanical stabilizer with an electronic gimbal, the ultraluuv is one of the most interesting — and strange looking — camera stabilizers.germany-based luuv is finally shipping its long-promised action camera stabilizer that was successfully funded on indiegogo three years ago. there are actually two separate products — the all-mechanical, 3d-printed solidluuv and the electronic action gimbal — but for the full effect, both stabilizers are combined into one to create the ultraluuv. the company says the ultraluuv offers “two- by three-axis” stabilization and allows users to aim the camera with pan and tilt controls for the gimbal.the ultraluuv is built primarily for action cameras like the gopro hero, but can also handle phones and some compact point-and-sho

fancy is a pocketable smartphone gimbal: digital photography review

smartphone stabilizers are a great tool for capturing professional-looking video footage on your mobile device and are getting more powerful with every new generation. however, most current models have one thing in common: they are not really pocketable, making them more of a dedicated tool for serious video shooters rather than an everyday item for the average consumer. the fancy stabilizer is now out to change this. it is an electronic smartphone gimbal that takes up less space than the smartphone it is attached to. the makers of the fancy, chinese company wewow, is currently running an indiegogo campaign to fund the production of the device and claims it is the currently smallest and lightest smartphone gimbal on the market.with just 43.5mm (1.7 in) wide, about 118mm (4.4 in) tall and 2

a smartphone stabilizer that's smaller than a smartphone? now that's fancy

why it matters to you fancy's small size may mean it's more likely to be on-hand when you need it.smartphone stabilizers are more pocketable alternatives to tripods, but one company is taking pocketable to the extreme. the fancy stabilizer is an electronic smartphone gimbal but it actually takes up less space than that smartphone.the fancy stabilizer comes from wewow, a china-based company with five gimbals currently on the market ranging from gopro to dslr stabilizers. launching on indiegogo on friday, the fancy stabilizer is the smallest and lightest smartphone gimbal on the market, according to wewow.more: can’t decide between electronic or mechanical gimbals? steadi volt is bothwhen not in use, fancy is just 1.7 inches wide, about 4.4 inches tall and less than an inch thick. that comp

gopro's karma drone is finally back on sale, almost three months after its recal

gopro finally announced its first drone, the karma, last september, following a teaser paign that spanned many months. unfortunately, after the first batch of around 2,500 units arrived in the hands of customers, gopro discovered a big issue with the karma - namely that it had the propensity to randomly lose power during use. that's obviously not something you want your drone doing, so the company took the painful (but necessary) step of recalling all the drones it had sold, and halting sales of any other units until it fixed the problem.that may have taken longer than expected, but it now looks like you can once again trust the karma not to randomly stop working. a change in the battery clasp mechanism is gopro's solution for the issue. gopro has started selling it again today.for now, th

hands-on with ricoh's compact pentax kp: digital p og hy review

ricoh has taken the w s off it's newest dslr, the aps-c format kp. resembling a mini pentax k-1, and inheriting some of the same features, the kp is a more compact, modernized version of the k-3 ii.its price and all we've been told point to it being an k-3 successor but the company says it doesn't replace it. whether this is to avoid devaluing remaining k-3 ii stocks or because it hopes to introduce a higher-end sister model is unclear.we got our hands on a pre-production sample recently, and we've prepared a quick product tour.

the best action (and gopro) you can buy

not long ago, action eras were the test gear. small enough to fit into any pocket and easy to use, these little point-of-vew corders also could capture high-definition video. the ability to mount the corders on a variety of surfaces or accessories only bolstered their original appeal, along with their rugged build components. led by gopro — the company that essentially created the action  industry — its hero eras were in-demand by everyone, from teens to professional filmmakers.now, fast-forward to the present. while gopro is still the undisputed champ, there are a lot more players — from no-name budget manufacturers that want a slice of the pie, to major era makers like sony, which sells eras that rival gopro in terms of image quality. in fact, action s are now so ubiquitous that even gop

nintendo switch: the kotaku review

the nintendo switch is a fascinating new game console built around a novel and well-executed central idea. it also has plenty of problems that will doubtless be improved upon in a future version. nintendo is yet again trying something new, and here we are to take the plunge alongside them.advertisementnote: this review is based on a week spent using a switch provided in advance by nintendo. they also sent two launch games: the legend of zelda: breath of the wild and 1-2 switch. while i can speak authoritatively about much of the overall switch experience, this review is necessarily incomplete. expect it, like the switch itself, to receive at least one major update. i’ll note updates in the bottom of the review as we go.this review originally appeared 3/1/17.advertisementthe switch is ninte
