a possibly suicidal teen threatened to jump from a state route 78 overpass in vista wednesday, snarling westbound traffic for nearly an hour until firefighters got her to safety. the girl, reportedly between the age of 14 and 17, was spotted on the emerald drive overpass about 5:10 p.m. westbound traffic stopped and then was diverted off the freeway, causing traffic to back up several miles, the california highway patrol said. a psychiatric emergency response team, comprised of mental health clinicians who are paired with officers or deputies, was sent to persuade the girl to walk away from the edge of the overpass. about 40 minutes later, freighters got her to safety. she was taken to a hospital for an evaluation, authorities said. all westbound lanes were re-opened shortly after. caption
