matt cain struggles to find himself, but perhaps he is looking for the wrong pit

phoenix – matt cain has spent four years grinding through rehab and toiling on the mound while trying to rediscover his old form.maybe he’s going about it the wrong way. maybe the old form isn’t coming back. maybe cain should stop trying to be cain.maybe he should try to be ryan vogelsong, instead.an all too frequent moment arrived in the third inning of cain’s start wednesday against the milwaukee brewers at maryvale. he got two quick strikes on domingo santana. then a pitch got fouled back. another fastball inside resulted in a chopper through the third base coaches’ box. then a ball in the dirt. another too far in. a slider that missed off the outside for ball four.another two-strike count that spit the bait.and oddly enough, that confrontation might have been progress for cain. here’s

matt cain’s situation with giants remains precarious, considering the pitcher’s struggles in spring training.giants general manager bobby evans expressed concern over cain’s chances of starting for san francisco during the regular season in an interview with knbr on tuesday.“yeah, i just don’t know,” evans said about cain starting sometime this season. “i think we’ve got to break (camp) with the guys that we think are going to help us for the whole year. … he could get some starts, but at the same time, i can’t speak to that. i think we just have to wait and see how this spring finishes.”it hasn’t started well. cain has ceded 16 hits and 11 earned runs in 10 1/3 innings over four games, including three starts, while managing just five strikeouts. evans called the situation “hard to classif

giants' matt cain embraces fight for rotation spot

scottsdale, ariz. – matt cain traveled the show horse circuit this winter. he sat in the metal bleachers and cheered for his wife, chelsea, an accomplished equestrian.he did not mind being on the sidelines. he chuckled that he rather enjoyed the novelty of it. but he is not ready for permanent residence there.for the 12th consecutive year, cain was among the giants pitchers and catchers who reported to scottsdale stadium on monday. the only uniformed personnel who have been here longer are cain’s pitching coaches, dave righetti and mark gardner, and bench coach ron wotus.the difference for cain this time: confronting the very real possibility that this could be his last spring as a giant. and confronting the hard fact that despite all he has achieved in his career, all the respect he has e

mercury is joining 2017's evening sky: how to see it

venus will leave the evening sky this week as it passes through inferior conjunction on march 25 and transitions into a morning object. but as venus departs the evening sky, another planet will soon take its place: mercury, the planet closest to the sun. beginning now and running into the first week of april, mercury — a somewhat overgrown version of our moon — will have an evening appearance about as favorable as northern hemisphere denizens ever get to see.  in general, the most favorable elongations of mercury — occurring in morning or evening — are those when the planet rises or sets in a dark sky, and that situation will occur for more than a week beginning later this month. from march 27 through april 5, mercury will set at (or shortly after) the end of evening twilight, which will o

2017 fantasy baseball: nl west rotation rankings
