wayne gretzky will coach in nhl all-star game

“good pride,” he said urday to describe his feelings. “i got an opportunity to play there as a 20-year-old. i think i was an entirely different person. probably did a lot of stupid things. i think it might be a little bit of validation to know that i’ve gone through all the paces. i’ve done that work and i’m here today.”he roomed with drew doughtyduring his kings career, but the two will be opponents sunday, when doughty plays for the pacific division. that hasn’t gotten in the way of their friendship, as they got together to catch up. “it was pretty sweet. we had fun [friday] last night, me and wayne,” doughty said. “it’s good to be reunited. we had a lot of fun our first three years together in l.a. to kind of go back to old times felt pretty good and i’m happy to be here with him.”slap

nhl honors 100 greatest players ahead of all-star game

no matter when they played, no matter which team they played for, many players selected as members of the top 100 of the nhl’s first 100 years had a similar reaction to winning that honor.“i never really expected it,” hall of fame goaltender billy smith, who won the stanley cup four times with the new york islanders, said of the announcement made friday during festivities related to sunday’s all-star game at staples center and the nhl’s centennial.“i didn’t see myself as being one of the top 100,” bobby clarke said, though he was the heart of the philadelphia flyers’ broad street bullies and is a hall of famer and two-time cup winner. “it’s pretty humbling to be honored this way. it’s so special, i can’t describe it.”grouped by eras (starting with the 1970s) rather than ranked, 67 players

razzwired, 2016-17 fantasy basketball

austin rivers is finally busting out, and showing the ability that we all knew he had.  it appears that biggest factors in this breakout are minutes and confidence.  rivers is playing with swagger now, and the numbers bear that out.  over the last two weeks he’s averaging a slash line of 17.2/2.3/4.3/0.5/0.3 with 2.2 treys, 48% fg and 80% from the stripe.  he’s a must-own while cp3 is out, and frankly, he should be a solid part of the clippers future from here on out.  unfortunately he’s now just over 50% owned in most leagues, so this is the last call on rivers.  please go get him…secondly, i would just like to point out what a miserable team the sacramento kings are.  rudy gay is out now, yet nobody gained any value.  how is that even possible??? gay’s injury opened up 34 minutes per gam

ivica zubac, 2016-17 fantasy basketball

oh man, what a fun day this is for razzball basketball!  let’s start with our big announcement we’re making later today – i’ve teased it a few times, but it’s coming this afternoon!  we’ve got a special post going up today that is going to:  blow.  your.  mind.  i’ll just leave it at this – it involved robots and very short shorts…on top of that, what a fun night of hoops on humpday!  we had epic drama with the kings somehow beating the king (in cleveland no less!), yet another tripdub for russ, but then a late night wonder with my boyfriend ivica zubac having another awesome game!  my preseason darling looked further away than ever for minutes when he barely got run in preseason games, but he just kept his head down and powered through some d-league stints and a handful of junk time minut

unique skill set of denver nuggets' nikola jokic turning heads

it will be hard for nikola jokic to draw a more favorable comparison this season than the one presented by hall of fame point guard isaiah thomas two weeks ago.“he reminds me of magic johnson,” thomas said as he courtside in london with the nuggets’ television broadcast team during denver’s victory over the indiana pacers.there are probably few quicker ways for jokic, the nuggets’ 21-year-old, 6-foot-10 rising star, to gain national attention for his diverse game than being mentioned with one of best and most ver ile players in nba history — by a contemporary, no less.but it was a far more low-key parallelism made last week that perhaps best captures the unique and increasingly dominant skill set of a player who is quickly grabbing the league’s attention.“he looks like a water polo player,

eichel enters "eye of the tiger" zone

in the first half of tuesday’s game, jack eichel couldn’t get anything going.  the puck was constantly jumping over his stick and was turning the puck over constantly.  things certainly changed in the second half of the game as he willed the sabres to a third straight overtime victory.  eichel scored twice, including the absurd overtime winner below, on four s s.eichel’s s rate is currently the best in the league over his 26 games along with 12 goals and 9 ists.  now, it’s not a huge sample, but that’s a 40 goal, 30 ist pace with over 320 s s.  that’s why i had him ranked in the top 20 before his preseason injury and while he’ll probably be there at the start of next season.  we’ll be sure to include some dynasty talk on thursday’s podcast; in eichel’s case, we haven’t seen his best yet, f

what all those dead trees mean for the sierra nevada

the ponderosa pine had taken root decades before the revolutionary war, making a stately stand on this western sierra nevada slope for some 300 years, nate stephenson figures. then e the beetle blitzkrieg. now the tree is a dab in the gray and rusty death stain smeared across the mountain range.at the base of its m ive trunk, a piece of bark has been cut off, revealing an etched swirl of insect trails. higher up, naked branches reach out, as if from a many-armed scarecrow.“this was alive until the drought killed it,” stephenson says mournfully. the u.s. forest service estimates that since 2010, more than 102 million drought-stressed and beetle-ravaged trees have died across 7.7 million acres of california forest. more than half of those died last year alone.ecologists nathan l. stephenson,

evander kane exceeds even my expectations!

anyone who reads my posts knows how much i love evander kane for fantasy hockey.  you’re probably sick of me writing about him at this point.  well, i’m leading off with him again today because of the following: a) he had three more points on thursday night (2+1, 3 sog), b) nobody else went off because nino and i just led off with him, c) i watched the entire sabres game to see kane’s impact, and d) there is no d.  well, there is, watch dwight howard and dennis schroeder joke about it but not in regards to this point.  anyways, you guys know what to do with kane at this point.  for those who are new here, pick him up and play him!  it’s an excellent combination of goals, s s and penalty minutes at the moment.  and the best part for me is, he helped me win a trip to california in march to s

ranking the 100 most important people in blackhawks history

the nhl is celebrating its centennial season in 2017 and will honor the top 100 players in league history during all-star weekend in los angeles. as an original six franchise, the blackhawks have been around for most of those 100 seasons, and we felt they deserved a list of their own. here is a completely subjective ranking of the 100 most important people in blackhawks history. let the arguments begin.100. darcy rota: first-round pick in '73 draft scored 20 or more goals in each of his first four seasons with hawks.99. steve sullivan: well-traveled winger played three full seasons and most of two others with hawks. scored 20-plus goals four times, including career-high 34 in 2000-01.98. harvey wittenberg: served as stadium announcer for more than 40 years; known for his no-frills, monoton
