just in: huawei honor 8 pro hands-on

huawei is doing a tremendous job lately with a variety of good smartphones both under its name and under the honor brand. the latest addition to the portfolio is honor 8 pro, also known by its chinese name honor v9, and resembles honor 8 and honor v8 in terms of overall design. here’s what caught our attention before proceeding with the extensive tests.huawei delivers the honor 8 pro in a box that converts into a cardboard-style vr headset. the whole set is quite easy to assemble, but there are also directions if you are struggling with the do-it-yourself part. as we have already seen in honor 8, the pro edition’s power button has a different texture, making its pressing a bit easier.huawei has a terrific fingerprint sensor that the company implements on every new device. the scanner works

huawei teases a new honor launch for april 5

huawei’s honor line of phones will welcome a new member of the family on april 5. it will start at 10:30 gmt and you can attend the launch event virtually (we’re guessing a regular livestream, unless honor goes 360° like nokia).what phone will we see? a poll teases several options - honor v9, honor magic and honor 8 lite. the rumor mill suggests that the honor v9 (which is already available in china) will launch in europe as the honor 8 pro. and the unveiling is allegedly scheduled for april 5 - that's more than a coincidence.the huawei honor magic is in a similar position - available in china, but not in europe (and this event is hosted by honor western europe). a lite version of the honor 8 is possible too - it already appeared in finland in an unofficial capacity.follow the source link

nougat update for huawei honor 6x might not arrive in march after all

earlier this month, huawei confirmed that the nougat update for the honor 6x will start rolling out in march. that was indeed a pleasant surprise given that the company had earlier said the rollout would begin in q2 this year.however, turns out that's not the case. the source of the report has now clarified that the march time-frame is for the review unit they've received for testing.the chinese company, for its part, is officially sticking to the h1 2017 time-frame for the public roll-out of the honor 6x nougat update. keep in mind that the final roll out could still begin in march; huawei isn't out-rightly denying it - it's just that they aren't promising it.meanwhile, the company has stared beta testing the update.source

if you've been eyeing up huawei's honor 8 but haven't bought one yet, perhaps today is the day to do the deed. to make your decision easier, the chinese company has decided to shave $80 off the phone's price, as a valentine's day special offer. since this is valentine's themed, it's only valid today, however - so you need to act fast if you want to take advantage of the deal.it's the 32gb honor 8 that is up for grabs from huawei's own online store for the us in either white or black for just $319.99, down from the recommended retail price of $399.99 (and the ~$341 you need to pay for it at amazon). alongside the price cut, you also receive a clear tpu case and an accessories gift set for free. so if you don't want it for yourself, this could be a nice (if late) valentine's day gift for you

huawei honor 8 pro review

the honor 6x is a phone we should talk about more. it’s good looking, has a good camera, and doesn’t cost much at $250. it embodies what honor, a brand that shares technology with huawei, does best. but what happens when honor goes all-out and creates a phone with high-end specifications, ready to take on huawei mate 9, and other big-screen phones like the lg g6, and samsung’s new galaxy s8?the honor 8 pro — technically adept, while still reasonably priced. it does almost everything well, though the phone’s camera is a little lackluster compared to competitors, and it’s not eye-catching like the galaxy s8.we’ve spent a week with it, and this is what we found.uninspired designwhile immediate comparisons will be drawn with the iphone 7 plus, the honor 8 pro is closer to the new huawei p10 pl

why it matters to you want a high-end smartphone but you're not enthused about paying big bucks for the privilege? the honor 8 pro may be the answer.chinese brand huawei’s phones occupy every hue of the pricing spectrum. on the high end, there’s the cutting-edge, top-of-the-line p10 with leica-certified lenses, and on the low end is the $250 honor 6x, which eschews a lot of the former’s bells and whistles in favor of bargain basement pricing.huawei’s new honor 8 pro, which the company announced on wednesday, sits somewhere in the middle.it’s the latest addition to huawei’s honor sub-brand, which maintains a careful balancing act between competitive hardware and palatable pricing. the honor 8 pro launched in china as the v9 earlier this year, and begins shipping to europe in april of this y

huawei's honor 6x is officially getting nougat and emui 5.0 next month

huawei's honor 6x disappointingly launched running android 6.0.1 marshmallow and the company's old emui 4.1 skin on top of that. so naturally, ever since its introduction we've been wondering when it will finally receive the update to android 7.0 nougat and emui 5.0. at its international launch event at ces last month, the chinese company only said that the 6x would get nougat at some time during the second quarter of the year. then a purported time frame leak from china talked about the honor 6x tasting nougat in may, which is right in the middle of q2.however, we have some unexpectedly good news on this subject today. huawei has confirmed to android police that the honor 6x will in fact be updated to android nougat and emui 5.0 sooner than expected. namely, the update should go out in ma

honor 8 lite leaks inside a case, looks just like the huawei p8 lite (2017)

if you were at least a little bit baffled by huawei's recent move of introducing the p8 lite (2017), using the name of the p8lite from 2015 instead of the p9 lite from last year as a base for the new model, get ready for some more weirdness. first off, let's mention that the p8 lite (2017) may actually end up being sold as the p9 lite (2017) in some countries. confused yet?well, you're going to be even more confused by the newly leaked honor 8 lite. this is shown in the images below inside a case. you may have noticed something familiar about it though - yes, it looks exactly like the aforementioned p8 lite (2017).so does this mean that the same handset will get a third name for use in specific markets? that certainly feels possible, but it hasn't been confirmed yet since no specs for the

honor 8 pro review: screentrooper

introductionhuawei's mate 9 and the p10's have set the scene nicely for a variety of sequels and - doing what everybody else does - huawei is looking to maximize the flagship impact wide across the field. it's a well-practiced routine and the honor 8 pro looks fit to play.it's an honor smartphone, a sub-brand, and huawei didn't even up the model number. a bump in both screen size and resolution, the top chipset of the house, 4k video and the latest android did warrant the pro moniker but it hardly tells the whole story.yes, the sequel is very different from the original. in fact, it shares a lot more features with the p10 plus flagship than with the preceding honor 8.for starters, there is a bigger ips display of 1440p resolution, while the latest kirin 960 chip with 6 gigs of ram is trust

honor v9 coming to europe as the honor 8 pro

first, a quick note to huawei - please, oh please stop the naming madness. we definitely don't want any more of the huawei p8 lite (2017)/p9 lite (2017)/honor 8 lite/nova lite mess. and we are only taking the time to say this, since the honor v9 appears to be headed to europe, under a new name - honor 8 pro.the chinese manufacturer has been sending out invites for an april 5 event. while the honor flagship is not explicitly mentioned, we have heard rumors of a eu release before, so, it is only logical to assume so. and besides the confusing name change, there is actually a lot to like about the handset.we don't typically see many high-end offers from the online-sales, value-first honor division, but the v9 is definitely an exception. it comes with a 5.7-inch, qhd lcd panel, which puts it s

huawei enjoy 6s hits europe as huawei nova smart

a new huawei phone dubbed nova smart appeared on a slovak website with €200 price tag. after deeper look, we realized it is just the renamed huawei enjoy 6s.the huawei nova smart is a lower-midrange phone, powered by a snapdragon 435 chipset with octa-core cpu. the ram is 2 gb while the storage is 16 gb and can be expanded up to 128 gb due to a microsd slot. the device has a fingerprint scanner on the back despite its pricing, and you can find it below the 13 mp primary camera. the os is android 6.0 marshmallow with huawei’s emui 4.1 on top.the regular price is €200, but you can get it cheaper with a subscription plan from local telecoms.the huawei nova smart is also available in the european union under the name honor 6c for a similar price.via (in slovak)

huawei nova lite goes official, buts it's quite the familiar face

we're not saying huawei's naming convention is a complete mess, but huawei's naming convention is a complete mess. what was announced as the huawei p8 lite (2017), and is also available in china (and, of all places, in finland?) as the honor 8 lite, has now been launched in japan as the huawei nova lite.the nova lite, being practically identical to the p8 lite (2017), is built around a 5.2-inch fullhd ips display. the in-house kirin 655 chipset is on the inside, with a octa-core cpu in charge of doing the number crunching in a 4x2.1ghz + 4x1.7ghz cortex-a53 config. there is 3gb of ram on board and internal storage is a modest 16gb, thankfully expandable.in the imaging category the huawei nova lite lists a 12mp primary camera on its back and an 8mp selfie shooter. the phone can take 2 nanos
