hands-on with ricoh's compact pentax kp: digital p og hy review

ricoh has taken the w s off it's newest dslr, the aps-c format kp. resembling a mini pentax k-1, and inheriting some of the same features, the kp is a more compact, modernized version of the k-3 ii.its price and all we've been told point to it being an k-3 successor but the company says it doesn't replace it. whether this is to avoid devaluing remaining k-3 ii stocks or because it hopes to introduce a higher-end sister model is unclear.we got our hands on a pre-production sample recently, and we've prepared a quick product tour.

pentax k-1 full-frame dslr camera review

cameras with full-frame sensors are about as good as it gets for pure photo quality—other than medium format rigs for pros. yet even though they’re all good to some degree, or better yet great, some are better than others.the long-awaited pentax k-1 – the company’s first first full-frame (35mm) dslr — bridges a gap in the pentax lineup between the aps-c dslr and medium-format cameras, and carries a decent pricetag: $1,949 (body only). sure, it can capture great quality photographs, but times are changing, and modern camera makers have innovated to push the envelope. can the k-1 stand up to the competition?design and usabilityone of the key reasons this camera is creating so much interest (at least among the many pentax fans) is a huge full-frame imaging device. all of the majors have been

lg trademarks 'g6 compact', 'g6 lite' and others

lg has filed trademark applications for the names lg g6 compact, g6 lite and a number of others. this isn’t that unusual - last year we had the g5 ‘lite’, later redubbed lg g5 se. the ‘compact’ model is a bit of a surprise, though.lg did make the v34, a v20 mini of sorts, but that was exclusive to japan so don’t count on worldwide availability. still, unlike the se model, this brought the full power of the flagship into a compact form factor, something the android world desperately needs.the company also filed for several other names - g6 hybrid, g6 fit, g6 sense, g6 young, g6 forte, g6 prix. those are not necessarily phones, they sound like lg g6’s friends. the fit is most probably a fitness band, the other names are more ambiguous.source | via (in dutch)

sony xperia x compact is once again going for just $349.99

sony launched the xperia x compact in the us last year for a pretty steep $500 unlocked, but in the past few months we've seen its price drop quite a few times. at various points, the x compact was sold for $450, $400, or even $349.99 back in december.now that best deal is back, and you can even pick your favorite retailer to purchase from - both best buy and amazon list the exact same $349.99 price for the handset. what's more, all three colors are available - we're talking about, black, blue, and white.it's unclear if this is a limited time thing or not, but it really shouldn't be given the x compact's mid-range specs and its age. at this price, the small smartphone becomes much more interesting for many more people than before. note that the units sold by the aforementioned retailers ar

hands-on with the canon eos rebel t7i / eos 800d: digital photography review

the canon eos rebel t7i replaces the t6i (which will continue to exist), making it the top model in the compact rebel lineup. (the new eos 77d is essentially the replacement of the rebel t6s.) weighing in at under a pound, the t7i is designed to be as small and portable as possible, while still packing in a fairly impressive feature set including a 24mp sensor and a revamped autofocus system, made up of 45 all-cross-type af points. the af system should be operable down to -3ev with an f2.8 or faster lens.

lg trademarks 'lg g6 one', and some letter variations

lg is playing the trademark bingo and just filed a bunch of other lg g6 related names. joining the g6 compact and g6 lite are the g6 one and the g6 alphabet soup.seriously, g6 c, g6 l, g6 m. what they are and whether they will be used at all, is too early to tell. the c and l could be compact and lite respectively. what would be the m then, mini? one could hope. and “one” name is proving popular among tech makers, usually not for the first product in a line (go ask htc or microsoft).here’s the thing - if all these prove to be names of accessories or ones trademarked because “better safe than sorry,” we’ll be fine. if lg really does launch that many g6 phones, it runs the risk of diluting the brand.thanks for sending this in, michel!source | via (in dutch)

review: spiderlight holster keeps your slr camera at the ready

for photographers on the go, even the most compact bags can be a hassle. if you don’t want to be constantly taking out your camera and putting it back in the bag, your options include wearing it uncomfortably around your neck or shoulder on a strap, or simply forgoing it altogether and – the horror – sticking with your phone. the spiderlight camera holster from shai gear aims to find a happy medium between those two options.as the smaller version of the popular spiderpro, the $95 spiderlight is designed specifically for compact dslrs and mirrorless cameras. it’s a product that many photographers seemed anxious to get their hands on. funded via kickstarter, it raised over $70,000, more than double the original $30,000 goal.we can now confidently say that the spiderlight delivers on the prom

2017 jeep compass review: best compact suv on market?

there’s a reason why jeep buyers are notoriously brand-loyal and why the jeep brand sells more suvs than any other automaker. in the year-end totals, 926,376 people bought a jeep during 2016. of course, jeep only makes suvs, and they offer everything from the rough-and-tumble wrangler to the posh grand cherokee, but still, the brand is doing something right.2017 is a renewal year for the compass nameplate. first introduced for the 2007 model year, the compass has always had a sibling vehicle in the jeep patriot. the notion at launch time was that the patriot was a little more throwback and spartan and the compass would be a little more luxurious and urbane. both models sold well through the tough times of the recession and into the current era. last year, 121,926 patriots were sold along w

new galaxy s8 and s8 plus schematics come with precise dimensions

march 29 and samsung's eagerly-anticipated flagship announcement event can't come quick enough. the unveiling might still be nearly two months away, yet the leaks have been extensive and we can't help but feel we are already quite familiar with the future pair of handsets.there are live images and specs, even more revised specs and renders, to name a few, already in the wild. the screen resolution mystery was also recently unraveled, leaving little to the imagination. a fresh new batch of schematics offers detailed measurements for the galaxy s8 pair.we already knew samsung's new design would shine with extremely compact bezels and a large focus on curved screen real estate. however, putting that into numbers carries the point across even better. measuring 159.53mm by 73.37mm. the galaxy s

us appeals court strikes down part of indiana vaping law

indianapolis (ap) — a federal court on monday struck down a major portion of indiana’s restrictive vaping law, which created a monopoly for one security firm and sparked an fbi probe.a three judge-panel of the 7th u.s. circuit court of appeals in chicago ruled that the law’s strict requirements guiding the production of the nicotine-laced liquid consumed through vaping imposed “unprecedented” and “extraordinary” regulation for out-of-state companies. the ruling effectively ends the stranglehold that lafayette-based security company mulhaupt’s inc. had on deciding who could enter the indiana e-liquids market, although it applies only to out-of-state manufacturers.the legislature first approved indiana’s vaping law in 2015, ostensibly to create safety standards for “e-liquid” production. the
