what happened in the cl ... ? in two weeks ago, we covered lessons 5, 6 and 7. in third session our lesson were about the audio-lingual method and silent way. four students presented them. we suppose to discuss about macro-strategic framework but we didn't have enough time. in fourth session our lesson was about desuggestopedia and two students presented it. then we discussed about macro-strategic framework. what we have learned: audio lingual method: the teacher introduces a new dialogue. the students repeat each line of the new dialogue several times. the teacher initiates a chain drill in which each student greets another and she says "very good" when the students answer correctly. silent way: the teacher works with gestures and sometimes instructions in the students' native language, to help the students produce the target language sounds as accurately as possible and the teacher points to blocks with different colors to teach sounds in target language. desuggestopedia: in this method the cl ... room is bright and colorful. the teacher speaks confidently and gives the students the impression that learning the target language will be easy and enjoyable. they choose new names and introduce themselves to the teacher. the teacher uses ... in the cl ... room too. comments about the cl ... room events: in my opinion the students' presentations were all good and could easily understand what they taught, but because of having two presentations each session we couldn't focus on them well. ... ادامه ...

in the name of god in to last sessions we had three presentations. the first was about the audio-lingual method, the second was about the silent way and the third one was about desuggestopedia method. the first and second presentations were in one week and the third was in another week. all of the presentations were great but the third one was really excellent. i liked it so much and i will add a comment for them because of their great action. and at the end of the cl ... we discussed about macro-strategic framework. as i told in these sessions we learned about three other methods in teaching english, about audio-lingual method i found that in this method the teacher uses only the target language and introduces the dialogue by modeling it two times and the students repeat each line of it several times and the grammatical points are thought through examples and drills. about silent way i found that in this method students become independent by relying on themselves. the teacher give them only what they absolutely need and then is silent. it is based on self-correction which means they are encouraged to correct their errors and explore the language. about desuggestopedia method i found that in this method the teacher should make the cl ... room bright and colorful and speaks confidently and gives the students the impression to teach them easily and enjoyable. the teacher makes errors and corrects them in a soft voice. i have leant many things from presentations but i had to summarize them because it would be so long to write them down here. as i mentioned we had three presentations and two of them were in one session. i think it is not useful to do this all the sessions because the students cannot focus well in each method and it isn't provide the aims of the cl ... . so ... ادامه ...

this is my ejournal on two session we had. at first session two of the students gave presentation on gtm. gtm is based on translation and i realized that almost all of my teachers were using this method during my education process. i’m completely familiar with this method and i think using it wouldn’t help students to reach appreciable level in english. of course sometimes you need translation in cl ... . but to use this method as the dominant style wouldn’t do any good. about the presentation; i think it was quite informative. but i didn’t feel effective cooperation between the two presenters. it was like each one had memorized their own share of the subject. also most of the times they were reading from the book, i understand that sometimes you need to take look at your notes. but it’s your notes not the p ... ages from the book. they had another object, they could have taken a look at the p ... age and explain it in her own words. about the discussion i like the way we sum up everyone’s studied. the second session two of the students gave presentation on direct method. then we shared our comments on the presentation. after a break we had discussions about approach, method, design, procedure and techniques. then the professor explained how to write lesson plan. about the direct method i know that when i was in high school my teachers didn’t use direct method much in the cl ... and because of that many students had problems in speaking fluently. about the presentation the two students were well prepared. and the power point was really useful. but they started the presentation in a monotonous tone and finished it the same tone. and the speed they presented was quite fast i mean they didn’t stop to see if we got the whole explanation or not. and about the ... ادامه ...

what happened in the cl ... ? in last two weeks we got familiar with "community language learning" and "total physical response". community language learning is the method which takes its principles from the more general counseling-learning approach developed by charles a.curran. it has five stages, in stage i, ii, and iii, the teacher focuses not only the language but also on being supportive of learners in their learning process. in stage iv, because of the students' greater security in the language and readiness to benefit from corrections, the teacher can focus more on accuracy. it should be noted that accuracy is always a focus even in the first three stages; however, it is subordinated to fluency. the reverse is true in stages iv and v. the second method was total physical response which was developed by james asher. in this method the first phase of a lesson is one of modeling. the teacher issues commands to a few students, then performs the actions with them. in the second phase, these same students demonstrate that they can understand the commands by performing them alone. the observers also have an opportunity to demonstrate their understanding. what we had learned: in community language learning: 1- there are six elements necessary for nondefensive learning; security, aggression, attention, reflection, retention and discrimination. 2- students security in this method was provided for in a number of ways. some of these were (1) the teacher's use of the students' native language, (2) telling students precisely what they would be doing during the lesson, (3) respecting established time limits, (4) giving students only as much language at a time as they could handle, (5) taking responsibility for structuring activities clearly in the most appropriate way. in tota ... ادامه ...

in first session, my friend and i presented lesson 9. this lesson was about communicative language teaching. we distributed tasks between ourselves. my friend presented principles and i explained techniques. in second session, two students was supposed to present but they had a problem couldn’t present. as i presented communicative language teaching, i learned many things about that and i found this method interesting. this method is useful method for teaching english and we can use it for teaching in our cl room. one of the techniques of this method is picture strip story in this technique. the teacher has a strip story. she shows the first picture of the story to the students and ask them predict what the second picture would look like. the students don’t know what the picture contained. they have a choice to predict. they receive feedback by being able to view the picture and compare it with their prediction. it is useful to provide opportunities for students to participate in the process of teaching that was a good experience for me. ... ادامه ...

by katie wetherbee recently, a morning talk show featured an organizational expert who spoke on educational issues. the interview focused on managing study time and using organizational tools to enhance success. color coded notebooks, locker organizers and bulletin boards were showcased as tools for effective studying. parents were instructed to set up a designated study space for each child. with these tools in place, the expert enthused, students’ grades and attitudes should improve. if only it were that easy. all of the recommendations the talk show guest gave were practical; all students can benefit from organizational techniques. however, students must learn strategies that work for them as individuals. these strategies might be different for each subject and ignment. as students mature, they need to adapt their study methods so they can achieve their academic goals. this self-awareness is what educators call “metacognition,” that is, the ability to learn how to learn. as with any new skill, the process of acquiring metacognitive strategies comes more easily to some students than others. what works for me? students need to understand themselves as learners: their unique strengths, weaknesses and style of learning. while some students may fare quite well with an uninterrupted, two-hour block of time for studying, others may need to schedule studying in 15 minute sessions, with breaks in between. similarly, one child in the family might thrive on a quiet room for studying, while a sibling may need to be closer to the hub of activity to get help and redirection. presenting these kinds of options and then asking a student, “what works foryou?” can be an important part of developing effective study habits. students should feel that they have some autonomy whe ... ادامه ...

learning preferences of students attending and not attending language institutes sara jalali urmia university, faculty of humanities, english department, [email protected] masoumeh samadi urmia university, faculty of humanities, english department, [email protected] abstract in the context of language cl room, learners are by and large the consumers whose beliefs, attitudes, motivation, and preferences play the most important role in the learning path. therefore, with respect to learners’ differences and the unique situations each learning context requires, this study attempted to investigate the differences, if any, between english language learning preferences of students studying in language institutes in addition to their language programs that schools have set up with those who mainly study english via school curriculum. to this end, 180 high school students within the age range of 15-17 took part in this study; 90 students studying in language institutes in addition to attending language programs and 90 who attended only the mainstream school program. the researchers employed a 53-item likert scale questionnaire to survey learning preferences of the participants. the results of the t-test analyses indicated that there was not any significant difference between the learning preferences of the two groups in general; however, there were differences regarding different cl ifications of items namely, grouping, vocabulary learning, learning grammar, error correction, media, and learning activities. the findings are hoped to pave the way for learners and teachers to ameliorate language programs. keywords: language learning styles; learning preferences; high school students; language institutes; high schools جهت دریافت مقاله اینجا کلیک ک ... ادامه ...

we are in the midst of a serious epidemic of scapegoating our youth. enter the search term “millennial” and one is presented with a flood of punditry that diagnoses college students as “excellent sheep” who are so gobsmacked by google and so “spoon-fed” by doting parents that they can no longer cope with difficulty or perform complex mental operations. i disagree. with over three decades as a college professor, i believe it’s time educators proposed a more accurate pathology of the problems facing youth today and offered a better cure bear market. first, let’s reconsider who these supposedly coddled students really are. when i ask beginning students when they first realised they were creatures of history, not simply independent actors, they routinely name the 2008 global financial crisis. they would have been 10 or 12 when the world’s leaders appeared on their tv screen to deliver the unprecedented message that the fortunes of corporations, nations, and individuals had vanished overnight. fast forward to the present and the united nation’s international labour organization (ilo) warning that some 75% of the world’s workers are now employed in temporary, contingent jobs or in unpaid family jobs. millennials and their younger siblings know difficulty. they were reared on it. no college generation in recent times has faced greater global challenges or an educational system more in need of redesign to prepare them for these challenges. because of an irresponsible older generation’s abdication of support for higher education as a public good, students in many countries today pay higher tuition and leave with greater debt than ever before. no generation since the second world war has had to face more real and present danger from resurgent fascism, the ... ادامه ...
