dell emc's cloud strategy coming into focus

las vegas—if cloud 1.0 was amazon renting out its spare servers, and cloud 2.0 is all about container-based and cloud native applications, then enterprises need to get ready for cloud 3.0. the next-generation of cloud will be something that goes beyond technology to a business operating model. or as dell emc calls it, "it-as-service.""the cloud operating model, to be able to provision services, deliver applications and charge for services as they are consumed, that is the cloud," said dell emc president david goulden at a panel of executives at dell emc world here this week. "once you start with that view of cloud, then the whole it landscape is moving to a cloud operating model. it's not just about public cloud or private cloud, it's a combination of all of them."in other words, all the m

moving into production, staying in the cloud

you probably know by now that the economics of the cloud are compelling. the economics of the public cloud are even more so, because you let go of a lot of capital resources and risk.but about all that risk: is it too risky to host your applications in the public cloud? there was a time, perhaps, but we're well past it. the major public cloud providers have very mature platforms and vast pools of expertise, and security vendors are building out their cloud expertise, as well.even large, sophisticated, and security-obsessed institutions like jp morgan chase are using the public cloud. last year, deutsche bank reported that public cloud adoption among big banks was widespread. and it's not just banks. last year, johnson and johnson announced a major commitment to the public cloud. both jp mo

cloud computing security: this is where you'll be spending the money
