about 150 people gathered saturday evening in minneapolis’ loring park to lament friday’s not-guilty verdict for the st. anthony police officer who killed philando castile last july.afterward, they planned to hold a peaceful march through downtown minneapolis. a group left loring park and went to the offramp from interstate 94 to hennepin avenue. then they moved to other intersections, including 9th street and hennepin, where they sat down. police were in the area and diverting traffic.  among the organizers of the “solidarity march against police violence and white silence” was minneapolis activist and mayoral candidate nekima levy-pounds.compared to friday’s emotional, angry public responses to the acquittal of officer jeronimo yanez, saturday’s rally and march, along with a community meeting held in st. paul earlier in the day, were quieter and more somber.the loring park gathering felt more like a community gathering than a protest, with those present talking about the dearth of elected officials from minority populations as one way to change the culture around police and race.as the multiracial gathering got underway, another organizer, samantha pree-stinson, a candidate for city council in minneapolis’ 3rd ward, said the group would not be marching onto a freeway. her comment came in the wake of a standoff on interstate 94 earlier saturday that culminated in 18 arrests.levy-pounds spoke of how friday’s verdict affected her, and urged others to come forw...
