a week after lawmakers tried to address complaints of sexual harassment in illinois politics, gov. bruce rauner joined skeptics who don’t think they did enough to ensure that complaints will be investigated and wrongdoers punished.on thursday, the republican governor said the two bills the democrat-controlled general assembly sent him last week would start the process of taking on sexual harassment concerns. one requires sexual harassment prevention training for lawmakers and lobbyists.the other lifts a one-year statute of limitations that would have prevented the newly installed legislative inspector general from investigating old complaints filed during the several years lawmakers left the watchdog post vacant.rauner, though, contended lawmakers left in place a different provision that could prevent those investigations from going before a panel for possible punishment.“they should have dealt with that in this bill,” rauner said during an unrelated bill-signing ceremony at the james r. thompson center in the loop. “so this was hurried, it wasn’t really well thought through.”he also said he is concerned that the new legislative inspector general, former federal prosecutor julie porter, has to answer to lawmakers who could meddle with her investigations.“there’s a lot of control with the legislature about what they can investigate,” rauner said of the legislative inspector general, who is appointed by the general assembly and reports to a panel of eight lawm...
