the death of corey walgren, the naperville north high school student who committed suicide after being questioned by school and police officials regarding a disciplinary matter, is a "tragedy that forever affected the lives of families and staff at naperville north," naperville police chief robert marshall told the city council on tuesday night.however, the school's resource officer involved in the case followed proper protocol when questioning walgren, 16, about the contents of his phone without a parent present jan. 11, marshall said."there has been a frenzy of media attention recently, solely relying on the allegations of a lawsuit filed against the city and the school district," marshall said. "our school resource officers have continually served in our schools for 25 years. the involvement of naperville north's school resource officer in this matter has been publicly mischaracterized."the police department will not be releasing further details that would identify or jeopardize minors involved in the investigation, marshall said.the attorney representing the walgren family could not immediately be reached for comment."i know the community is frustrated that answers aren't out there yet," he said.
